What to Know About the Powertrains of the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E

The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E is a very modern electric SUV that benefits from all of the latest developments in terms of electrified powertrains and charging solutions. Here are some of the most important details you should know about the Mach-E and its powertrains if you are in the market for a new EV.

Performance

As you would expect from a vehicle wearing the Mustang name, the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E benefits from a generous helping of horsepower and torque, even in the entry-level versions. Indeed, the Mach-E Select and Premium come standard with a single-motor rear-wheel drive powertrain that delivers 266 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. These models can also be powered by a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that bumps the torque up to 428 lb-ft in combination with the standard 70 kWh battery and the horsepower to 311 when ordered with the slightly larger 72 kWh unit.

Installing the Extended Range 91 kWh battery in the Mustang Mach-E allows a higher output that can reach 290 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque with the RWD setup or 346 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque with the AWD option.

The GT Performance Edition uses this last battery and motor combination but it increases the output up to 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque.

Range

The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E offers more than enough range for almost every driver to complete their usual commutes without having to think about charging for at least a few days. Depending on the model and its type of powertrain, the actual range figure can vary from a low of 360 kilometers to a high of 502 kilometers. Here is a more detailed breakdown:

  • Premium and Select RWD: These versions of the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E are equipped with the Standard Range batteries and a single motor powertrain. With the 70 kWh battery, these models can drive up to 397 kilometers on a charge and with the 72 kWh unit, they can manage 402 kilometers.
  • Premium and Select AWD: Available on both of these trim levels is a dual-motor powertrains that provides more power and increased traction on broken pavement, in exchange for some range. With the 70 kWh battery, these models are rated at 360 kilometers while they are rated at 364 kilometers with the 72 kWh battery.
  • Premium Extended Range RWD: The Premium version can be ordered with a larger 91 kWh battery that increases its range significantly to 492 kilometers.
  • Premium Extended Range AWD: By adding a second motor to benefit from all-wheel drive and more power, this version cuts the range down slightly to 467 kilometers.
  • California Route 1: This trim level of the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E is the one that offers the longest range, despite featuring the same combination of mechanical elements as the Premium Extended Range AWD version, which means a dual-motor powertrain and the 91 kWh battery. You can expect to drive up to 502 kilometers between charges with this model.
  • GT Performance Edition: Being the most powerful variant of the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E, it is not surprising that the GT Performance Edition has a little less range to offer than some of the other trim levels. Nevertheless, its 91 kWh battery allows it to propose 418 kilometers of range.

Charging

Charging an electric car can seem overwhelming at first due to the numerous different charging networks and solutions, but it is actually easier than it looks in many cases. For example, the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E is compatible with a wide range of charging options in order to provide you with more ways to proceed. Starting with level 1 charging, the Mustang Mach-E can be ordered with the 120/240-volt charging cable that allows it to take power from a regular 120-volt household outlet. While this can prove helpful in some situations, it is not the recommended method for most EV owners because it is quite slow and can result in charging times of a few days.

The more powerful level 2 charging is the one owners are going to use the most since it encompasses both home charge points as well as most public charging stations. These charging solutions use a 240-volt current which can be taken from a oven or dryer plug in your house in order to fully charge the battery overnight.

The level 3 DC fast charging feature is meant to be used when the battery drops too low to reach your destination while out on the road. For most drivers, using these types of chargers will not be necessary on a regular basis, but they are one of the key factors that can make EV ownership possible for many. In the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E, the standard battery can charge at a rate of 115 kW which allows it to go from 10 to 80% in about 38 minutes while the 91 kWh battery can reach the same state of charge in 45 minutes by benefitting from a 150 kW charging rate.
