2020 Ford Escape Hybrid

Introduced earlier this year, the 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid has a lot of appealing features. For starters, it received the full range of options and improvements applied to the new Ford Escape. It’s also among the most efficient SUVs you can buy while still offering a ton of interior space.

Hybrid SUV buyers will know that there’s usually a compromise to make in terms of interior space when choosing an electrified utility vehicle. There are two versions of the Escape Hybrid, the hybrid and the plug-in hybrid. The first uses an all-new 2.5-litre four-cylinder Atkinson Cycle engine paired with an electric motor and a continuously variable automatic transmission. The powertrain delivers 198 horsepower and allows the Escape Hybrid to reach up to 137 km/h in all-electric mode.

The second powertrain is the plug-in hybrid, which features a more powerful battery that delivers 48 kilometres of total electric range. For most buyers, this will be enough to get through the day without needing a single drop of fuel. The battery recharges in just 3.5 hours with a 240-volt outlet.

There’s also a range of driving modes available that allow you to personalize the way the new Ford Escape Hybrid operates.

• In Auto EV mode, the vehicle decides whether to run on gas or electric power
• In EV Now mode, drivers can operate on all-electric driving
• In EV Later mode, drivers can switch to full gas-powered driving to conserve electric kilometres for later
• In all-new EV Charge mode, drivers can continue to charge the battery while driving and generate electric-only kilometres to use later
